A few friends and I really want to go to Jordan to visit the Dead Sea, and Petra, and so many other places. But how do people in Jordan see Americans? I know that there are a lot of immigrants from Palestine and other parts of the middle east, and unfortunately they are being dragged into the conflict with suicide bombers and things like that. Would it be smart for a small group of 20-something caucasian American women to travel there alone? I know that tourism is a large part of Jordan's economy, but would it be safe?

Yes, you will be safe. Also, there is a really nice hotel in Petra called "The Carousel". I would reccommend this hotel.

I envy you, I loved Petra. Make sure you take plenty of water.

I had a blast riding the camels. You are going to have so much fun.

Oh yes and another tip, when at the Dead Sea, you can rent those tents that you will see there. Do not pay more than 10-20 jd though. Haggle for sure!

When you are at the Dead Sea, you will want to take a couple gallons of water with you in yoru car so that you can rinse your hair and body after the float in the sea... Also take some beach towels that are large nd clothesline pins so you can hang them in the tent and have a changing area.

Take your own ice and drinks and snacks to the Dead Sea, their hot tea is not refreshing. It is extremely humid and hot there and the flies oh lord they have horse flyes there that draw blood!

Another thing you MUST take with you is mosquito repellent. You could take Avons Skin So Soft, that repels them too.

That is one thing that Jordanians do when they know you are American lol... RAISE the prices!

Hi! I currently live in Israel and have crossed the border to visit Jordan several times. The Dead Sea is great; I recommend staying at the Marriott. Petra is lovely and the people are very friendly.

I haven't had any problems as far as safety, and I traveled with another woman only. However, I do speak some Arabic, have studied the Middle East extensively, and I have lived in the region for over a year.

It might be easier for you to go with a tour group, as this makes it easier to get around and you will feel much safer.

I have found the people of Jordan to be very easy going and friendly towards Americans, especially in Petra, but even in Amman. Many people there asked me how I felt about Iraq or America's support for Israel, and other political questions. I found it best to just change the subject, as I was not there to talk about my government, but to relax!

Good luck with your plans and if you go have a great time!

Jordan is very safe thank God, there are many tourism going on in Jordan especially from the States. you see many Americans and tourists walking in the streets of the Capital and Downtown Amman, its Safe do not worry.

Jordan is an amazing place to visit. its full of ancient sites plus the Jordanian people are very friendly. I recommend you should visit Petra, hopefully one of the new seven wonders. Wadi Rum is the most amazing place I've ever seen. You should go to Aqaba and Jerash. You should visit the Deadsea and spend a couple of days there for SunTan and relaxation where you can just flow on the water without moving its stunning, applying mud on your body and much more!!

You can do more than just visiting sites, the capital Amman is very beautiful, you can consider shopping, going to Cafe's and night clubs and all sorts of fun is available in the Capital.

If your worried about hotels and accomodations, there are many 5 Stars hotels, Sheraton, Four Seasons, MovenPick, Marriot, Kempenski, InterContinental and much more. So basically do not worry.

If you visit Jordan as a group its even more fun because you wont be lonely.

I advice you to go and visit the beautiful country and the people there are very nice and helpful and most of them speak good English.

Good Luck and Enjoy your trip :)

While you're there why not cross to Jericho in the Palestinian Territories which is the most peaceful Palestinian town and has lots of interesting sights? You have to cross to Israel at Allenby Bridge and then Jericho is about 5 miles away.

It's close to the Dead Sea, it's the oldest and lowest city in the world, it has lots of Biblical sites and a cable car up to the Mount of Temptation from where you can see for over 50 miles.

Jericho is basically an oasis in the desert where there is plenty of flat land for growing crops, especially fruit, so the people are not totally strangled by Israeli blockades like other Palestinians. This is why there has never been a terrorist attack executed by Jericho people (there was just one flare-up a couple of years ago - an attempted breakout from an Israeli prison, but those involved were not from Jericho).

You'll love it, and they need the tourists.

Travel to Jordan is relatively safe these days. There are a number of organized tour companies that can steer you to the sites you mention and away from the few danger zones. Many of the tourists going to Jordan are Americans, and they are generally welcomed.

I'm from Jordan and i can assure you that its safe, when i go out, i see many tourists walking in the streets and they are, but you will need a guide.

people hear specially in Amman and Aqaba wear just like Americans, also girls

as long as you are coming here, you better arrange everything with a tourist company what can make easier and more joyful for you.

best luck,

and hope you enjoy your stay

for the comparable reason the Jordan jockers do it. To make their argument sound extra appropriate. do no longer understand why you single out the Kobe jockers and not the Jordan ones, yet the two decide to edit counsel, or a minimum of use it in a deceptive way.
