Like one person said, the greatest expense will be airfare. Also, before you leave, check out the political situation as there has been unrest there in the recent past. It is not a big problem if you stay away from the areas where there are demonstrations.

My son has been there since November. He lives on about $150 a month. But that does not include rent since he is staying with friends. There are some nice hotels there. I suggest you first get a reservation at one of them -- I stayed at the Sheraton the last time I was there for business -- and then check out other places to stay. If you are going alone, it would be safest to hook up with a travel service. While Ethiopia is a great country and fairly safe, any foreigner traveling abroad is subject to certian crimes.

Your big expense will be the plane ticket to get there. Once there, everything is amazingly cheap. Look online, try travel agents, call airlines directly. Do as much research as possible to find the cheapest ticket you can.
