I have 3 weeks annual leave in January 2008. I can't decide whether my partner and I should go to Kenya (to see the wildlife which I love) or Egypt. Has anyone visited both. I would like to hear feedback of which you may have enjoyed most. Thanks.

I have been to both places. It all depends on your interests. If you are really interested in the history of the ancient world of Egypt & the sites , then thats the place to go , if you don't have a big interest in them you might get bored in Egypt because of all your site seeing has to do with the history of Egypt. Nothing else do there unless you go scuba diving in Sharm El Sheik or Hurghada.
If your interests are wildlife , then Kenya is the place. Nairobi itself is not very safe and there is nothing to see. But the rest of Kenya is fine they are peaceful people. You can combine a safari to the Masai Mara for about 4 days & end your holiday in Mombasa (beach) in Kenya just to give you a bit of diversity.
I prefered Egypt because I did so much reading on the history that I really had a blast when I went there. Again all boils down to what you want to see. Both places are very different to each other & great destinations.
Good Luck

I have been to both places. I think Egypt is a real hassle and until the people are more friendly to tourists and stop fleecing, cheating, lying to and harassing then I cannot recommend a visit. Kenya on the other hand was wonderful. Just be careful in Nairobi and don't walk outside alone, take taxis. The people in Kenya were so friendly, unlike Egypt.

I haven't been to Egypt but I know Kenya. There is a lot to do in Kenya other than safari and beaches, which is all anybody ever talks about. There is mountain climbing at Mt. Kenya or in the West at Mt. Elgon. Hell's Gate Nat'l Park a couple hours west of Nairobi is a really cool place for hiking and rock climbing. On the coast there is a lot of history as well. There is Fort Jesus in Mombassa, constructed by the Portuguese in the 1500s (I'm a history teacher and I loved Ft. Jesus) Also furthur north on the coast is the Gedi (or Gede) ruins near Malindi, which is basically a ruined Arab city circa 1300. In addition there are the safari parks like Masai Mara, Lake Nakuru and Tsavo which if you like animals, you will love. And the beaches are great as well on the coast. My favorite beach was Tiwi Beach just south of Mombasa town.

egypt all the way much more to see and do here also its much safer,i worked and saw a lot in Kenya but i never felt safe, there is not actually much to see unless you go safari then you only go to see what the reserves want you to see.diani beach mombasi is nice but not for more than a week also to many mosies and maleric. i have lived here in egypt almost 2 years my first visit in 2002, and i love it.loads to see and places to visit look at this web site gives a better insight of egypt than most tour companies + really good prices January is a fantastic time to come to egypt,

Wasup!!! I've been to booth places. i would go (ANYTIME!!) to Kenya then Egypt. (I'll keep it short)
lets see... a desert-land, dry and expensive trip or.... a multinational land of many cultures and over 40 tribes and mother-tongue languages, but all speak Swahili and English with the best scenery and weather? plus the best coastal beaches and the best safari experience I've ever been on?
well....
