A country of southwest Asia. Inhabited since c. 2000 B.C. by Iranian peoples, the region later became the core of the Persian Empire. After being conquered by Alexander the Great and ruled by the Parthian Arsacid dynasty, Persia was reestablished under the Sassanian dynasty (A.D. 224–651) and, after invasions by Arabs (7th century), Turks (10th century), and Mongols (13th–14th centuries), was reestablished again under the Safavid dynasty (1502–1736). The country, officially renamed Iran in 1935, was ruled by the Pahlavi dynasty from 1925 until the ouster of Muhammad Reza Pahlavi (1979) in a revolution led by the Ayatollah Khomeini, who established an Islamic republic. Tehran is the capital and the largest city. Population: 69,000,000 .

To be very truthful I do know that much about Iran. I do have a friend of mine that married a very nice man from there. I like him a lot even though his english is not as good as mine. Who am I to say that this country is good or bad. It has different laws, different culture, and probably the people that live there are different than me. Their beliefs maybe different than mine. Their religion is not mine.
Then we have what we read in the newspaper, on CNN,etc. Are they presenting to the reading public only what they what us to know? If we listened to the policies of our government they do not agree with them having nuclear programs. I agree. Fundamentalists have no business with a nuclear aresenal.
Does Iran fund terrorists? I do not know for sure since I do not have privy to all the facts but our President seems to think that they do. What should we do about Iran? I think that world opinion keeps people of the free world from doing the necessary to keep the peace until we are forced to do otherwise!

I think that Iran and the US have a lot in common right now. We both have leaders who are completely insane and who somehow have power despite overwhelming disatisfaction from the citizens.

A country with potential. It has an educated population and oil money for finances.
Unfortunately, the government will bring the people to ruin if the people do not revolt against it.

I think that "we" as Americans are very lucky not to live in such a horrific place of turmoil and unfair government! Just as they see us and generalize all Americans through what they see in their media, I think that we do the same about them! How do we know what it is like over there unless we have been there?
